Cradle Mountain is one of the most visited alpine regions in Tasmania. It is located in the northern end of the Cradle Mountain/ Lake St Clair National Park and forms part of the Tasmanian wilderness world heritage listed area. The local wildlife includes such special animal species as Kangaroos, Wallabies, Wombats, Tasmanian Devils and sightings of the thought to be extinct Tasmanian Tiger are sometimes rumoured in the area. Some of the nearby old growth forests are a major attraction in their own right.

Tasmania is a relatively small place so getting to Cradle Mountain is really easy. Being set in the midlands means that is not far to drive from either Hobart in the south or Launceston in the north and the road access from either city is easy. In the midlands region surrounding Cradle Mountain you will find dozens of historic country villages that support the local agricultural industries. In these villages and towns are lots of interesting craft shops, museums and places of historic significance.
